Curling Club was held last night (April 27th) at Hotel Terrace when some 100 curlers were present. Following a delicious turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, Jack Wellings, President of the Curling Club, expressed his thanks to the many who had assisted in making the past season of curling so successful, In his brief remarks, D. C. Porter, Mill Manager, expressed his pleasure at having had an opportunity of curling for the first:timc. H. S. "Ham" Craig, LongLac's General Manager, and Vice-President of the Curling Club, then paid tribute'to President Wellings for his efforts throughovt the season and also took the opportunity of discussing the important role played by "leads! in the curling gane. The Hudson's Bay Grand Chali nge Trophy was then presented to the Club Champions, the rink skipped by Jack Wellings and including Peggy Wellings, Dick Lumbers and Jock licCall. To the members of this rink werit individual cups and Hudson's Bay blankets, donated by Hudson's Bay Company, George Coulter, Imperial Bank Manager, presented the Imperial Bank Trophy to the runner"up for the Club Championship, Al McColl, whose rink included also Bob Monteith, Henry Smith and Cecile McColl. Menbers of this rink won four Ronson lighters donated by Lakehead Freightwoys. Prizes were then presented by "Ham" Graig to the winners in the following events: Club Championship Consolation, Thor Olsen's rink (Marvin Lomon, Ted McInnis, Cecile Noonan). Prizes - four flasks donated by Dominion Catering Companys Runner-up in Club Championship Consolation, Bev Suiley's rink (Ernie Haight, Lorne Woodard, Barbara Haughn). Priges - four billfolds donated by Dr. McCatisland. Open Bonspiel, Jack Welling's rink (Peggy Wellings, Dick Lunbers and Jock McGall). Prizes - four sport shirts donated by Gerhard Kennedy, and four lighters donated by Imperial Oil Cou Runner-up in Open Bonspicl, lialcolm Graig's rink (Bob Sheppard, Nelson Allen and Eric Heuser)s Prizes « four Baby Yen alarm clocks donated by LonzLac Pulp and Paper Co. Open Bonspiel Consolation, winner, Les Martin's rink (Brale Haighty John Zonneveldt and George Farrand). Prizes - four sets of milk tickets donated by Grasmere Dairy, four packages of Swift products donated by owift Canadian Company, and four fruit cakes, donated by Canada Bread. Runner-up in Open Ponspiel Consolation, Ruth Bangartt's rink (Jim Nicholson, Jim Wickett, Eve Wolloshyn), Prizes were four hampers of gsocerics donated by Terrace Groceteria,. During the dinner hour; piano msic was supplied by Mrs. O'Connor, and following presentation of prizes, community singing was led by Fred Scughton. o=0=0 ST. MARTIN'S PARISH TO JJFLCOMB FATHER RORNICKE Tonight, (Thursday, April 28th) in the Recreation Hall, parishioners of Sts Hartin'ts Parish will gather to officially meet and welcome a new parish priest, Rev. Father J. E. Rocnickes Father Roenicke is known alveady to a number of Terrace Bay residents, since he received his High School education at Sts Patrick's in Fort William from which he graduated in the Class of '36, Prior to moving to Fort William in 1930, he had attended Grade School in Saskatoon, ; He studied for the priesthood at St. Peter!s Seminary in London, Ontario, graduated from Western University in 1939, finished seminary and was ordained on April -16, 1943), Following his ordination he went to the Cathedral at North Bay and also spent a short tine at Espenola and Blind River', He came to Tcorrace Bay directly from Sacred Heart Church, Sault Ste. Marie, officially appointed 1s the second parish priest of Sti Martin's Parish by most Rev. R. H. Dignan, Bishop of the Dioceses of Sault Ste. Maric. Keenly interested in Community life, Father Roenicke has already disclosed his interest in recreational activities by attending a Softball organization meeting which was held last Tuesday. He is reported to be an ardent tennis player. In welcoming Father Roenicke to Terrace Bay, we trust that his coming will be not only a blessing to the parishioners unto whom he ministers, but that those of all faiths in the Community will benefit from his being among us.
