Volume 4 No, 4 3 LARGEST CIRCULATION IN TERRACE BAY January 27, 1949 WEAVING COURSES PLANNED FOR TERRACE BAY Weaving is probably one of the most important of all basic crafts and throughout Canada during the past few years many weaving courses sponsored by various groups have been responsible for increasing interest in the craft and making lessons available to many who were interested. In the Province of Ontario much excellent work has been done in this regard by the Government's Department of Planning and Dzvelopment and through their efforts a comprehen- sive program to teach weaving throughout the Province was developed. This program has now been taken over by the Community Programmes Branch of the Department of Education, Through the efforts of Mr. E. V, Ross of Fort William, District. Supervisor of Community Programs, and his staff, interested Terrace Bay residents are going to have the opportunity of learning weaving. Sponsored by the Women's Institute of Terrace Bay, two separate 5-week courses will be conducted by a competent instructor from Toronto, during the period from February elst to March 12th. There will be an Afternoon Gourse from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 pim. and an Evening Gourse from 7:00 p.m, to 10:00 pam. Classes will be conducted daily, except Saturday and Sunday, and applicants may enroll for either of the courses which will be held ina room of the new Terrace Bay School made available for the purpose by Terrace Bay School Board. Courses require the use of some $700.00 worth of equipment and $300.00 worth of supplies. Registration fee for the course which is open to anyone in the community is $7.50. As the enrolment in each course is limited, the first to register will have preference, All who are interested in registering are asked to please advise Mre, T, 5. Hodgkiss, 62 Laurier Ave., before February end, indicating a preference for either the Afternoon or the Evening Course. 0-0-0 COMMUNITY CHURCH CONGREGATIONAL MEETING HELD The Second Annual Meeting of the Terrace Bay Community Church was held in the Community Centre (old Hudson's Bay Store) on Tuesday evening, January 25th, with David McDonald acting as Chairman and Mrs, H. N. Marsh as Secretary. Highlight of the evening was the announcement that a call had been extended to Revs A. F, Lavender to become the minister of the Community Church and the statement from Rev, Lavefder that he would accept the call subject to ratification by the Presbytery. Nuncrous reports revealed excellent progress in all phases of Community Church endeavour during the year just closed, It was announced by the Secretary of the Buard v. Stewards that Membership Cards had already been signed by 85 persons. The Treasurer's Report given by Clarence Smith indicated that the Building Fund total was nearing the #2000, mark while in the Maintenance Fund there were bonds totalling $700, in addition to $335,60 in cash. Sunday School Superintendent Bob Sheppard reported 78 children on the Sunday School rolls in ten separate classes with a balance in the treasury for the year of $105,04, Mrs, F. 0. Soughton, Superintendent of the Cradle Roll stated that present membership wes 63. Mrs, R. Ostling, President of the Ladies Auxiliary reviewed the activities of this organization which had been started February 5, 1948 and revealed that revenue from bake sales, teas and other projects had exceeded $1150, Chairman Dave McDonald told those present that good progress was being made on a voluntary basis in renoveting the building which would be used for church activities until a permanent church is built in the Townsite,. During the elections which followed general reports M, R, Lemon was elected to the Board of Stewards by acclamation for a l-year period and by ballot the following persons were elected to the Board for a 2-year term: Mrs, H. N. Marsh, C. EB, Paget, Or. K, Vickers, Wm. Borsum and D. B, Colquhoun. Following the meeting, lunch was served by members of the Ladies! Auxiliary.
