Page 4 HOW HIGH A PRICE? How high a price must be paid to make people sefetyeconscious? Thats a problem that has stumped those who are closely concerned with the proad problem of safety. E To most of us the price is high. We have to see one of our fellow men injured on the job, on the highway, or in his home before we pay much ettention to oft-repeated simple safety warnings. : We can't deny that we are sorry when we see an accident and vow thet we will be more careful in the future so that the same thing will not happen to us. Ts is a peculiar quirk of human neture that not until we see a tragedy are we ashamed ef our own foolishness. Wo hewe probably been committing the same mistake time and time again, but not until calamity has touched someone else do we wonder how people, ourselves included, could consistently feel that safety is for the other fellow--and not for us. This attitude that' accidents can't happen to us is tragic, and such thinking can defeat the precautions that are taken for the safety of employees. Actually, if the individual doesn't exercise care in his work, all the safety devices in the world can't assure safe working conditions. Safety must begin in the mind of everyone. We must make safety-consciousness a part of our everyday behavior. It's the minute-to-minute awareness of the need for following safe practices which will help prevent accidents. Safety rules as well as safety devices are necessary in any plant, but it's the personal prescription for safety that pays off in the end. The man who is conscious that the threat of accidents is always at his elbow, whether he be on the job, at the wheel of his car, or in his home, and does something about it, is the man to whom accidents will seldom happen. He is the man who has accepted the challenge of safety. 0-0-0 CURLING SCHEDULE JANUARY 20th to JANUARY 29th (All games scheduled for 10 ends) CURLING SCHEDULE JANUART cvs Sheet 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Thurs.
