aaa cena ana Vol. 3 No. 35 ote eee ere cen en a MART KENNEY'S ORCHESTRA COMING TO TERRACE BAY SEPTEMBER 7th Mart Kenney and His Western ' Gentlemen, Canada's " Number One" Dance Band will play a one night stand at Terrace Bay on Tuesday evening September 7th under the joint sponsorship of the Terrace Bay Tennis and Badminton Clubs. Featured with this famous bend will be Norme Locke, Ray Roberts and The Vocal Quartet. In all, 15 persons will be travelling in the unite Mart Kenney's orchestra is famous across Caneda and in the United States too. Kenney himself was an expert saxiphonist with the Hotel Vancouver Orchestra making $75.00 a week when he wes 18. Shortly after that he organized a band of his own and went on a barn- storming tour, That's a far cry from Mart Kenney's most recent activities. For example he played almost 1000 nights at the British Empire's largest hotel, the Royal York of Toronto and has also been featured on the top Canadian nightime musical show Borden's "Canadien Cavalcade", During the war, Kenney had become famous with his "Coca Cola Victory Parade" broadcasts and his hundreds of personal appearances before the Armed Forces in service centres throughout Canada. Lengthy stands at Banff Springs Hotel, Hotel Vancouver, Hotel Sasketchewan, Casa Loma and Brant Inn have added much to his popularity as well as his coast-to-coast broadcasts over Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, British Broadcasting Company, Mutual Broadcasting Company, Blue Network of N.B.C. end C.B.C. Shortwave. Travelling in their own private railroad coach, the Kenney organization will stop over at Terrace Bay, en route to the west coast. Tickets for the dance which will be held in the Recreation Hall between 9:30 p.m, and 1:00 a.m. are being sold by members of both sponsoring clubs, and may be obtained, as long as the supply lests, from Jeanne McCord at the North Camp Engineering Office, Gladys ipvine in the Lower Camp Engineering Office or in the Townsite from Mrs. Stan Hodgkiss, Harold Marsh or "Monty" Paget. As the capacity of the Recreation Hall is limited, so are the ~~~ tickets and so everyone is urged to procure them early and avoid disappointment. Terrace Bay is indeed fortunate in being able to secure the services of such a "top-flight" name band, It's really an eccasionl 0-0-0 SCHOOL NEWS Summer holidays are just about over, and on Tuesday September 7th, youngsters across the country will be trooping to classrooms. For some children it will be their first experience with school and they, no doubt, will feel strange in their new surroundings. Others, of course, are veterans at the game, At Terrace Bay, a new public school is nearing completion, and although it will not be ready by September 7th, on that date all children of public school age are asked to register for the coming term. For this purpose the new Municipal Office at the Shopping Centre will be used and pupils are asked to report at the following hours, Grades 5-6-7- 8 at 9:00 a.m. Grades 1 - 2-3-4 at 9:50 a.m, Kindergarten at. 10330 ams Kindergarten pupils mst have birth or baptismal certificates. 'The entrance to the Municipel Office is located in the Shopping Centre Arcadc. High School pupils will be attending the Schreiber Continuation School again this year, and bus service will be operated the same as during last term leaving the Townsite at 8:15 aem. (north junction of Hudson Drive and Selkirk Avenue) and Schreiber YMCA. at 4:30 pem. This service will commence with High School opening Tuesday morning September 7th.
