1948. ieee Tog FIRE SIREN INSTALLED IN TOWNSL TE Phere is no question about the effectiveness of the a new fire siren recently installed in the Townsite near the Pee R ui ne Gentre, Last Saturday morning the new equipment was tested and there are roperts that the signal could be heard in Schreiber, 10 miles away. Certainly the Townsite Jah were very much impressed, for many cf bhem have been playing at imitating the siren during the past few days. The apparatus which makes the signal is a regulation fire siren four feet high tiie on.a special platform 36 feet abows the ground atop a Hydro pole. Lo is powered by a 2H.P, motor (eight tines the size used to operate an Spry electric washing machine or pefrivedason) and is one of the larger types of fire siren manufactured. Tt should be noted that the siren can be operated nai from the Fire Hall and there- fore fires should be reported promptly to the Fire Hall in order that-the alarm may be. + = * sounded , ie 7 4 When the siren. sounds ,all 'volunteer members of the fire Department are to-report™. + -._ L tumediately for duty to the Fire Hall in the Lower Camp. ; , In the meantime, and followiag the sounding of the siren,-the will whistle wiil.be blown in a series of short, bDlasts.for-20 seconds follow:« by the following code which will indicate the location of the fire: (a) 1 blast of 10 seconds duration. Townsites (b) 2 blasts of 10 seconds-durstiion-~ Lowar Camp; (c) 3. blasts of 10 seconds duration - Millsite. 'ai fhe mill whistle signal. will be repeated three times at 30 second intervals including. the warming blasts, Our new Townsite siren will be tested every Friday at 1:00 P.M, OenQeeO eth Present plans call for a minimum of 18 events te peas for "he Field Day planned for Townsite chil= dren and scheduled to be held Saturday afternoon August 28th, The program will include races for all children from 4 to 15 years of age inclusive, with novelty races as an added attraction, All entries in all events will receive a prize and there will also be special prizes for lst, end and 3rd in each event, Features of the day will be a contest for the best decorated bicycle or tricycle, and a similar contest for the best decorated doll carriage. These events sheuld add a lot of colour to the proceedings. In each of 'the two contests there will be prizes of {5,00 for first, $2.00 for second and $1,00 for third, 'lthough races are not scheduled for children under 4, they have not been forgotten in the plans, It has now been decided that the Field Day will be staged at the Ball Field, instead of on Kenogami Avenue as originally announced, Bleacher facilities for 500 will probably take care of most of those in attendance. Events are scheduled to commence at 2:30 PeM.. sharpe Special precautions will be taken to control traffic and assure the safe movement of youngsters from the Townsite to the Ball Park. Youngsters whose parents are unable to attend are urged to meet at the Townsite Playground and go in a group to the Ball Field, The movements of this group will be supervised, Following the events, refreshments will be served to the children, In the event of rain. the Field Day will be held on Labour Day, Monday, Sentember 6th.
