With a wind blowing that neared gale velocity, fire of an undetermined origin broke out north of the Blue Jay basin above Hydro Camp #1 and quickly spread until it reached the basin less than a quarter of a mile from the camp itself. Workmen from the Hydro and Terrace Bay projects held the blaze in check in the basin but late in the day the fire had spread against the wind back into heavy timber in the hills where crews fought the fire until 3:00 a.m. Fridey morning when it was brought under control. Later' in' the morn- ing firefighters returned to insure that all remaining isolated embers were extinguished.
