The John C. would proabably have been owned by Terrace Bay Pulp Mill at that time and the men on board were probably employees of the Mill. The John C. was built by Russel Brothers of Owen Sound, ON in 1940. She was for sale at the Nipigon Marina a back in 2010.

It is more likely this tug was owned by Don Clark's Nipigon Lake Timber Company. It was used to move logs around working mostly in Nipigon Bay in the 1940s and 1950's.
It was involved with the rescue of the crew of the fishing tug D&C in November 1957.
