Come to Schreiber a visitor, leave a friend Welcome to Schreiber! From the outside, Schreiber appears to be a small township nestled in a quaint valley surrounded by rolling hills. If a traveller should enter our community and stay awhile, they would soon discover our friendly, hospitable and warm small town flavour. Situated on the North Shore of Lake Superior on Highway 17, Schreiber is easily accessible. Our surrounding area is not only breathtaking, but also offers some of the best fishing, hiking, boating, hunting and camping in Northwestern Ontario. The famous Rossport Fish Derby, the incredibly picturesque and challenging Voyageur hiking trails, and our two beautiful provincial parks are only a small taste of what our area has to offer during the summer months. In our winter season, snowmobilers and cross country skiers can be seen throughout our area's forests and trails, enjoying our great outdoors. To accommodate our visitors, Schreiber has 140 hotel and motel rooms, a campground with an outdoor pool, several restaurants, two grocery stores and many other interesting shops. Established in 1885, the people of our community stem from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, but our Italian culture is our most prevalent. Their food, wines and unique cultural celebrations have changed little since the arrival of the first families from Siderno, Italy. Like many small towns along the C.P. Rail line, Schreiber has a rich history with many five-generation families. A visitor needs only stop at our Chimo Club and visit with our Senior Citizens to "get the scoop" on Schreiber's early days. When you arrive in Schreiber, you will arrive as a VISITOR, enjoying all our interesting people and places. But when your time with us comes to an end, I am sure you will leave us as a FRIEND.
