Mr. Erland Lee Mr.Erland Lee was secretary of South Wentworth Farmer's Institute. Each year this organization held a Ladies' Night but only for entertainment such as a piano or vocal solo. The guest speaker was always a man as the members maintained that the women's place was in the home. However Mr. Lee managed to have Mrs. Adelaide Hoodless as guest speaker in 1897 when she outlined a women's part in improving her lot in the home and community. Mr. Lee managed to both liberate the women and pull a coop over his chauvinist colleagues. Thus Mr. Lee was involved in the forming of the Women's Institute.
