Some prisoners did successfuly escape and I believ residing in the district. Some prisoners passed away while in the camps. They were buried at campsites,Some graves were situated near the railroad at Anglers Sidings Comrads carved elaborate grave markers for them. These markers were bordered with swastikas and the rank,name, birth and death dates were carved into the wood. After the war, the bodies were moved to the German Prisoner of war section at the Lakehead Riverside cementery, The The carved grave markers were put in a lakehead museum.
