Fault of Liberal Government Lies in Leader Says Fisher Doug Fisher returned to the Lakehead Saturday and addressed a large crowd of mainly NDP supporters at the Labour Center. Mr. Fisher, former CCF member of parliament for Port Arthur is now a columnist and university lecturer. He told the audicnce that he would speak on the Trudeau government as a journalist and not as a member of the NDP. He said the Trudeau government was elected on the promise of being an "exciting, plugged-in government," but shortly after being elected, Trudeau relized the mess his predecesors had left the country in and had to make several unpopular moves. In general, Mr. Fisher comments were that the fault of the Liberal government in Ottawa was in the leader. He said the government was characterized by its leader and that this was the wrong way in which to judge a government. Trudeau, he claimed, has removed himself from the political process by surrounding himself with so much staff he is out of touch with what is happening in the country. Mr. Fisher likened a Liberal MP to a drone bee whose sole purpose in life is to meet the need of the queen bee (Trudeau). He also said the government's attempt at creating participatory democracy,, "seems to have turned out a failure." The government has only had about a 50-50 success rate in fighting inflation, according to Mr. Fisher, despite the fact Trudeau has surrounded himself with so much talent. Speaking of a possible election, Mr. Fisher said, he believes Trudeau is having problems raising campaign funds because he has failed to keep the Liberal party an ongoing continuous force. For this reason, he said, there is a little likelihood of a federal election this June. March 1972 DOUGLAS FISHER Liberals Not Plugged In --Staff Photo.
