Kathy Kelsey photos Tots visit Russell farm The Herzig Family of R.R. 3; Russell, welcomed children from the Metcalfe Co-op Nursery School to their dairy farm on a fine day in May. The tots were taken on a tour of the barns and allowed to pet the young calves and see the other animals. Afterwards, cake and milk was served by Kathy Herzig and her daughter Francie and a good time was had by all. g Gregory Kelsey couldn't quite decide whether or not to join the other children making friends with a cow! Metcalfe Co- Operative Nursery School recently enjoyed a field trip to Kathi and Chris Herzig's farm in Russell, where they visited the calves, chickens and horses and enjoyed Kathi's famous hospitality in the form of chocolate cake, cookies and milk for the second year runn- ing. Metcalfe Co-Operative Nursery School is a fully licensed pre- school offering programs for children from 30 months to five years old. The teachers aim to treat the children as individuals, letting them develop at their own rate while trying to spark their curiosity and. developing their feeling of self-worth. The program is not highly struc- tured or academic in nature, but rather aims to broaden the child's total social, emotional, physical and intellectual development. The _ child is given freedom to experi- ment creatively in play, music, crafts; is encouraged to take pride in his own personal ac- complishments; and is offered the companionship of children his own age.
