* Page 10... | Meditorial By Rev. Jim Paul Have you ever read about Glynn de Moss "Scotty" Wolfe in the Guiness Book of World Records? This 70 year old Romeo is listed as the world's most married man. He has been married 22 times, and is look- ing for bride No. 23. His longest marriage lasted 5 years; the shortest, 38 © days. It is a tragic commentary on any society that allows this kind of divorce and remarriage. Such legalized "immorality" discredits the in- stitution of marriage. Much has gone wrong in the world during the last fifty years, but the most devastating evil has been the demise of marriage. In God's wonderful plan, marriage is designed to be permanent. Jesus stated clearly to those who were questioning him about divorce that "what therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder" (Matt. 19:6). Today there are a multitude of supposed reasons why the mar- riage should be broken. A most common reason for separation and divorce one hears is lack of love. Before their children, the divorce court and God, the marriage partners boldly declare to each other, "I don't love you anymore". True love, however, is not a compulsion of the emotions, but a choice of the will. Hollywood, television and Harlequin Romance Novels have spread the lie that love is a feeling and when the feeling is gone so is love. Is it any wonder why thousands of marriages are at the point of dissolution, being only held together by the rise and fall of emotional love. The only way a marriage can overcome the pressures and problems that fight against its existence is by the strong cords of Divine love. When it rules in the heart of the husband and wife, the marriage can endure the tests of time. The scriptures say that "God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Roman 5:8). Has the Savior brought this kind of love into your marriage? Serve poutines hot with maple syrup. Maritimers like them with molasses. : House needed for Castor Boat People Four local churches are only a house away from bringing a small family of Vietnamese refugees in- to a Castor community. Rev. Jim Paul, who with three other ministers has spearheaded the sponsoring committee, told the Castor Review that the family, to be referred by World Vision of Canada, could be here before Christmas. "'All we need is a house for them," Rev. Paul said. "We're hoping that a local family will volunteer to take the refugees in or that we can rent a place at a reasonable rate."' Churches participating in the project include Castor Valley Bap- tist; Osgoode Baptist at Vernon, . Ormond Baptist, and Harmony Community Church. The respec- tive ministers are Rev. Paul, Frank Stone, Joe Dowell, and Dan Cover. 2 So far, the committee has col- lected $4,000 in cash which has been placed in a registered ac- count at Russell's Scotiabank while another $2,500 in pledges re- main outstanding. The money will: go towards supporting the refugees for a year. : Rev. Paul. emphasized that sponsors would welcome "any other donations, no matter the amount. Administering the refugee fund is Etta Hill. Several gifts of clothing have been made to the cause. © The committee will request a small family of father, mother, and one, or at most, two children. Retired English teachers living in the area have volunteered their services in helping the newcomers adapt to Canadian life. Rev. Paul hopes the refugees will settle in a Castor village and not end up in Ottawa in the "Boat People ghetto" he feels is develop- ing there. Asked why the committee didn't apply through Project 4000, the Ottawa _ sponsoring organization, Rev. Paul said World Vision was selected because "it's Christian." "'We're not at all sure who's running Project 4000 and how refugees are screened," he said. Embrun 443-3113 GARY R.
