Summer was almost over. All her friends were away or occupied and Meg was bored. Meg's attention was drawn to the Chester house across the road as the door opened and the elderly Ben Chester came down the steps and peered up the street. Spotting Meg, he waved and called to her, and she and Rex ran gaily to him. "Hello Mr. Chester; can I do something for you?" ; "*Yes Meg; I've been expecting my son to go down to the bank for me, but he seems to have been delayed. Could you go for me? It's Friday afternoon and I really need some cash". "Of course Mr. Chester. Just let me tell mom where I am go- ing."' Rex heeled very well as Meg strode along the almost deserted street. Such a queer hazy day, it seemed as if something was hang- ing in the air just waiting to break the quiet. "Here's the bank Rex," said Meg, "You must stay outside and wait for me. I am not going to tie you, so please 'sit' until I come The Adventures of -Meg By M. M. McCallum back. I'm depending on you to behave."' Meg stepped into the cool in- terior of the bank. Looking about her she felt a shiver pass over her body. The quiet chill of the outside seemed deeper here...and then she knew why. Everyone was staring at her and as she stared back her eyes grew big in horror--that man had a gun. So did the man at the end of the counter!!! "Oh my", said Meg, "This is a holdup". "Right you are little lady," said the nearest robber, "and you are just the thing we need. We have the money and you will be our ticket out of here."' '*Please don't take her, she's just a child," pleaded the bank manager. The robber just laughed and told his chum to "ankle on down here."' Warning all to stay put for the next fifteen minutes he fired a warning shot and, pushing Meg ahead of him burst through the door and dashed for the car park- ed across the street. They had not reckoned on Rex! Seeing his beloved mistress be- ing pushed along by a stranger "Rin Tin" Rex Rex rose to his feet. Meg realized that Rex was untied. She called "Help Rex help." Quick as a flash, Rex launched himself through the air. Meg felt herself go flying sideways as the theif's hand was torn from her arm and Rex bore him to the ground. A bullet whizzed thru the air where she had been but a mo- ment before. Meg heard loud cries and saw legs go dashing around as the bank employees swarmed over the second robber. She found herself unhurt and, getting up she had to tug at Rex before he would release his captive. A phone call soon brought the police and Meg's mum. Meg and Rex were the heroes of the day, after getting a promise that Mr. Chester's needed cash would be delivered to him as soon as "the loot" was back in its pro- per place, Meg went home to bathe her bruises. By bedtime Meg was a little shaky thinking of what could have happened. Hugging and petting Rex she said aloud, "'Well! It was not such a boring day after all. Just wait till I tell the kids what happened. They'll never believe it!!!" Because they are smooth and vertical, your LouverDrapes stay clean and don't collect dust like horizontal blinds.
