To a bazaar they have come, to bargain and shop. But to greet and be greeted, will take time to stop. Paper bags crackle; cash changes hands Things so delicious; everyone warm and excited. Down in the kitchen hungry folks still lined up; Its the act of "The loaves and the fishes"!! And the United Church Women Smile and Smile and Smile. What is a bazaar, and why has it lived Thru the ages, since mans beginning? Why it fills a need, of warmth and of love, A need of receiving and giving. We put our hands to pie and dough and bread, Cloth and wool feel the pull, of needle and thread. The reward it brings help keep our church whole, And United Church Women have reason to smile. They will be changed every three months. Russell village's newest musical phenomenon, the Oldtime Music Makers, is growing constantly (as the above photo illustrates.) Admission will be the minimal fee of $1.50 and refreshments will be served. Naturally, oldtime music will be the order of the day. Essay contest The Castor Review essay contest announced last issue will be extended an extra month because of poor response. The Castor Review feels the contest was ill-timed in light of year-end exams and holi- days and that the extension will provide an opportunity for more entries. As an- nounced, contestants will be divided into three categ- ories ranging in age from 8-16. Winners and runner- ups chosen by the Castor Review editorial staff will be awarded cash and book prizes. The three first place essays will be pub- lished in the Castor Re- view. Entries of a maxi- mum of 250 words on any subject should be mailed to the Castor Review, Box 359, Russell, Ont., before Feb. 3 and should contain the contestant's name, ad- dress, age and school. Scout news Russell's scout troop, with an enrolment of 22 boys, has plunged into a program of winter activ- ities. Many new Scouts are learning the basic of snowshoeing-- not an easy task when boys come equipped with every type of footwear known to man. However, Scouts are a resour- ceful breed and by spring there may be 22 "coureurs de bois"' tramping the fields and woodlots around Russell. The next regional event is the Rideau area winter sports day to be held at Uplands Air Base Jan. 21.
