Crafts Russell Library will sponsor a crafts program for the Russell Horticultural Society at the Anglican Church hall, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m. The program which will be presented by Rideau Crafts, will include a lecture, the display of decorative wild plants, tips on dried flower arranging, the conservation and use of edible wild plants and the making of the Christmas wreath and other holiday decorations. The public is invited. Elizabeth Cleaver, author of children's books and one of Canada's foremost illustrators of books for children, visited the Russell Public School and talked about her books using slides to illustrate them. At a later date, Rick Avery delighted the children with a demonstration of Home-Made Music. Cecile Gagon, author and illustrator from Quebec, visited the Russell Separate School, explained how a book was made and how she went about writing and illustrating her books. Clowning Around Russell school children will be treated to "Clowning Around," a puppet pantomime featuring two puppet clowns, presented by the Lanpoon Puppet Theatre, of Toronto, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. at the Russell arena community hall. Horticulture The Russell Horticultural Soc- iety will hold its annual meeting at the Anglican Church hall, Nov. 38, following the crafts program. Scouts Russell scouts will meet Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at St. Mary's Church hall instead of Tuesdays to avoid a conflict in time with the home-game schedule for hockey players in the troop. Bazaars Local residents will be able to get a jump ahead on Christmas Shopping with three church bazaars coming up in Russell. The first in line is Nov. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at St. Mary's Church Hall. Next is the 90th annivers- ary bazaar at Russell United Nov. 19, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There's an admission of $1.50 for adults and 75 cents for children with hot lunch served. The third is the Roman Catholic Church's Christmas bazaar and tea scheduled for Dec. 3 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Happy shopping! Kids Keyed into Music The piano pupils of Mrs. Jack Twiname held their twenty- seventh recital recently at the Russell United Church. An enthusiastic audience applaud- ed the efforts of the boys and girls Beverley Cherry read an address of appreciation to Mrs. Twiname and she was presented with an arrangement of flowers to which she acknowledged her sincere thanks. Piano solos, duets, trios, and two-piano quartettes were rendered by the following pupils. What's the population of Russell Village. The sign at the village's west entrance reads 775, everybody knows that's too low. Russell Township Clerk Jean- Guy Bourdeau says the figure is about 900. A lot of people including township Roads Super- intendent Lucien Millaire think that's off base as well, Mr. Millaire thinks it's at least 1,200. Whatever the true total isn't it about time to pin it down and post it.
