Robbie's memory "Albert Belanger, he's our main hope right now. He's behind us one hundred per cent. But if he can't get any action we're not rul- ing out some kind of action ourselves." Those were the words of Alan Welsh, president of the Forest Park East Homeowners Associa- tion, as he explained that residents are counting on the Prescott Russell MLA to bring their crusade to a fruitful end. Residents have been pressing for lower speed limits along coun- ty road 3 following the death of Robbie Morency, 12, in July. The youth was killed while trying to cross the county road on his bicy- cle. Outraged parents have been demanding that the speed limit along the road be reduced from 80 km/hr to 50 km/hr and that four- way stop signs be erected at the in- tersection of county roads 3 and 5. Welsh says concern has mounted in recent days as children return to classes. County road 3 passes in front of Cambridge Public School. The speed limit is 80 km/hr in front of the school. 'Albert Belanger has had several meetings with officials of lives on Prescott-Russell Counties and we're hoping his efforts will pay off,'? Mr. Welsh said. "We sent letters to the Ontario Education Ministry and the Ministry of transportation and communications but they both claim the matter is under the jurisdiction of Cambridge council and that a decision must come from there."' Mr. Welsh is hopeful that Prescott-Russell will lower the 'speed limit and erect the stop signs. But he warns residents may take action on their own if Mr. Belanger's efforts fail. od = We start 'em young at Pinetree Stables LOLA WOOD -- 445-2976 JIMMIE KNOX AND "THEE GROUP" BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND Benny's Hotel : RUSSELL, ONT. Elizabeth and John, who are artists, intend to pursue their careers in our area. They have taught art in the British School system and have ex- perienced with a variety of media.. Their preference is painting. 2 OK Three cheers for patriotism! Russell residents Charles Stanley and Martin Hansen, in an effort to raise our sometimes fluttering devotion to the national emblem, have erected both a Canadian and an Ontario flag at 52 Mill Street. Comparing Russell to U.S. towns, Sybil Stanley noted that the Stars and Stripes are~seen everywhere. Hopefully the idea will catch on and soon there will be many silken symbols along the Castor ex- emplifying our devotion to home and native land. KK KK - The problem with stone grave markers is they're so heavy and if they're not sitting on a solid base, the frost can cause them to heave. Nothing throws off a cemetery's symmetry more than stones tilting every which way. Some of the lads were in Morewood Unitea Cemetery one Saturday trying to rectify that very pro- blem. They used a tractor with a harness rigged to the bucket to hoist the stones off their resting places. Rocks and gravel were cleared away to be replaced by a crush- ed stone base. Then the markers were dropped back into place. If the reset stones heave again, the lads explained, they'll settle back on the crushed base. The occasion brought out some pointed social comment "these days," said Glen McGregor from the business end of a spade. "Everybody thinks they're too good to lift a shovel." RK } J. G. Bourdeau Clerk-Administrator Corporation of the Counship of Russell Municipalite du Canton de Kussell FINAL NOTICE | SEPT. 15 DEADLINE Sanitary Sewers Village of Russell In July, 1979, a Notice and an Invoice showing Plan A or Plan B, namely for your choice of prepaying the Frontage and Connection charges, was sent to you and your final decision has to be decided upon or before September 15, 1980. This is to advise you that the deadline of September 15, 1980 will not be ex- tended. As the sanitary Sewer System is a Provincial jurisdiction, the Ministry of Environment will not consider prepaid payments after September 15, 1980. The unpaid portion will be charged against each property for a period of 40 years.
