Mrs. Alex Lyttle spent a few days with her sister, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hay, of Weston. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Matthew visited with friends in Belleville, Burlington, and Kitchener. Mrs. George Hay was a weekend guest of her daughters in Belleville. Mr. and Mrs.- Hubert MacDonald were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Melville Steele, of VanKleek Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Wade visited friends and relatives in Saskatchewan and attended the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of the latter's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Boyle in Vanscoy. Mr. Donald Alexander of Vancouver and Mr. Emerson Kinkaid of Ayers Cliff were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kinkaid. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Scott and Pam recently had the following visitors over the Thanksgiving holidays, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Sundstrom, Mrs. Jean Zieffle and Graduation Dorothea Emond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Phair, a student of Atkinson College, - received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the fall convocation of York University, Toronto, Ontario. Dorothea is a graduate of Russell Continuation School and Ottawa Teachers College, and now is an administrator in Special Education. Mr. and Mrs. Russell . Phair attended Mrs. (Robert) Dorothea Emond's graduation in Toronto. COMING EVENTS Scottish Night will be held Nov. 16 at the Osgoode Township Historical Society Museum, Vernon, 8 p.m. There will be a piper, Scottish food, Scottish refreshments, singing, dancing and poetry reading. St. Catherine's Dance to celebrate 10th anniversary of Union Culturelle Franco Ontarienne of Russell at Dr. F. Kinnaird Community Centre Sat., Nov. 24, 9 p.m. Everyone welcome. Tickets -- $1.50 advance, $2 at the door. Music by "Western Four". Rideau - Osfoode Unit of the Canadian Cancer Society will hold a meeting Nov. 20, 9:30 a.m. at the _ Catholic Church, Metcalfe. Mrs. Belle Scott, all from Medicine Hat, Alberta. Orton T. Harrison, highly respected Russell resident, passed away in the Civic Hospital, Nov. I, 1979, in his 75th year. Mr. Harrison was born in Osgoode Township, the son of the late Montgomery and Margaret (Boothe) Harrison. He--was educated in the local schools. He farmed in North Russell for thirty-two years, after which he retired and moved to Russell Village where he operated a small repair shop. He was a member of St. Andrews and St. Paul's United Church in Russell. He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred E. Fetterly, a sister (Hilda) Mrs. Willard Carlyle of Mountain, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by. one sister Beatrice (Mrs. Edgar Dean) and three brothers Albert of Kenmore, Harry of Cornwall and Clarence of Brighton. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. L. S. Woolfrey at the Lafleur and Robert Funeral Home in Russell. Pallbearers were Edgar Loucks, Robert Morrice, Robert Long, Ewart Campbell, Bevis Graham, Stuart Walker. He will always be remembered by many loyal and sincere friends in the area. Dempsey, Mrs. James, a_ well known Russell resident, died at Winchester District Memorial Hospital on October 12th in her 90th year. Born at Ponsonby, Que., daughter of the late James McShea and his wife the late Cecilia Cheney, she lived most of her life inthe Russell and Kenmore area. Married at Kenmore in 1914, her husband predeceased her in 1948. A member of Russell United Church, the funeral service at the Warner Funeral Home was conducted by her pastor the Reverend Leonard Woolfrey at | p.m. October [5th. Surviving are one daughter Mildren (Mrs. Earl Wilkinson) of Hull, Québec, two sons, George of Stoney Creek and Ellery of Aylmer, Ontario, one brother Alvah McShea of Gananoque. She was predeceased by two sons Harold and Cecil. The pallbearers were six grandsons Stephen Wilkinson, Bruce, Brian, Ronald, Wayne and Kevin Dempsey. Interment was in Russell United Church Cemetery. A large crowd gathered between 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. after the usual trick or treating in town to see costume judging and to share treats and gossip. Thank you to all those individuals involv- ed in the evening's entertainment. CARDS OF THANKS We would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" to relatives, friends and neighbours for the many acts of kindness to our Mother during the years she was a shut in and the several months in hospital.
