Pages' Friday, December 15, 1978 'The Adventures of -eMeg By M. M. McCallum Meg's Christmas musing Meg sits dreaming of Christmas' past On the windowseat with her dog; who is also her friend. "Does Christmas joy stay forever? How long does it last? Why for some, does it come, to an end" When the Christ child was born On earth long ago; Could He really imagine, Did He really know? That today, a young girl, would sit dreaming so? Meg muses; -- "If I, am in His image cast And, in the radiant light of His smile I may bask -- -- --, What is it; That also makes me be perverse, Makes me stubborn and naughty and somethings much worse?"' "How CAN Mother love me? Each day more and more? Why are Grandmas and Grandpas so patient and kind And Daddy so cheerful As he comes through the door?" "Why are Aunties and Uncles and Cousins and Friends; So happy to meet, -- specially as the year ends? They come laden with gifts They come glowing with love. Does it really all come, from the Babe up above?" Meg looks in the mirror, she sees eyes so blue; And feet that will dance, her whole lifetime through. A body thats growing -- A mind that can learn, A face that can smile, and a heart that can yearn. Meg knows she is lucky in this time and place To have on this planet, Her own little space. Meg knows there are many; strife torn and lost -- -- As by fate's hand they are cruely tossed. Meg will make an adventure of doing her share To spread warmth and love, and to be of good cheer. "Merry Christmas" says Meg "Gentle readers, so dear."' \ "May you all have a Peaceful, and a Happy New Year!" This makes the pockets for you to put branches in and allows all of the branches to go in the same direction. Now you are ready to use your imagination! A trip to the woods to find a few boughs (the boughs with the firm needles work best). If you walk in .the woods in the fall, pick up the cones and other odds and ends and put them away for later. Fit your greenery into the pockets. Fill in the inside ring first, then the outside one. I used milkweed pods wired together to look like flowers, sprayed them gold; also pine cones, crocheted carnations and crocheted bells. I attached these with the wires that come with large green garbage bags. Thanks goes to your library which had two ladies from Rideau Crafts come to Russell to show us how to make these wreaths and other decorations for Christmas. I made my wreath late in October, brought it home, put it in a large garbage bag, sealed it and hung it up in the garage. I took it out the other day and it was as good as the day it was made. So you don't have to wait until the last minute to make your wreath and the real thing makes your Christmas a little less artificial in this day of plastic everything. ¥ Robert Carscadden Robert F.
