(Photo by Rowsell). Russell W.I. -- , Busy December meeting Russell Village Women's Instit- ute held its December meeting at St. Mary's Anglican church hall in Russell. President Eileen Hamelin wel- comed the guests and members and was assisted in the order. of business by Edna Curry. Reports were given by conveners Mary Inglis, Ada Latour, Diny Achter- eekte and Georgie Gamble. The institute also heard a report of the area convention of the Institute from Mrs. Hamelin. The 1979 convention was an- nounced for Oct. 25-26 in Ottawa at the Talisman Hotel. The institute will have a bake sale on Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Russell arena in conjunction with the annual Russell carnival. Russell WI ladies will again sponsor a Russell 4-H club and leaders to attend the school are Joan Laviolette and Colby Bols. The school will be Jan. 19-20 at Bearbrook Community Centre and the Russell Village institute will cater their luncheon on Jan. 20. On the committee in charge of the luncheon are Tina Campbell, Eileen Hamelin and Georgie Gamble. The institute forwarded $168.76 to UNICEF from the Halloween collection -- $99.68 was raised by the Russell Public School and $69.10 by St. Joseph's Separate School. A report was given by Georgie Gamble with regard to the speaker at the recent senior citizens meeting in respect to the forthcoming senior citizens resid- ence. Eileen Hamelin prepared the report. The institute roll call of the evening brought many answers for better communications be- tween youth and adults. Colby Bols presented a motto telling us how the world could be a better place in which to live. Mrs. Bols and Lydia Nyenkamp were the conveners for the program and introduced Joan Portal-Foster who is the physical fitness instructor at A New You. A Christmas program included a Christmas reading by Betty E. Hay, a piano duet by mother and daughter Eileen and Linda Lee Hamelin, a sing song was led with Leila Twiname at the piano and Cherry Bekkers had a Christmas stocking contest. Georgie Gam- ble was master of ceremonies for this part of the meeting. President Eileen Hamelin and Edna Curry, secretary-treasur- er, presented calendars to the entire membership. Thanks was expressed to the 4-H girls for their presence at the meeting and their display of handiwork, also for the array of home baking which was on their sale table to 'raise funds for the 4-H work. Lunch was served by Mary Inglis and Julie Hubbard. "Visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Atkinson of Kitchener were weekend guests of Mrs. Robert Atkinson. Mrs. Milton Walker and Mrs. Howard Morphy of Ottawa visit- ed Miss Florence and Miss Dorothy Marquette. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Carruth- ers of Crysler were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Hubert MacDon- ald. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hay spent a weekend in Weston with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hay. Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Honey, Miss Florence and Miss Dorothy Marquette were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Eric Honey of Ottawa. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kinkaid were Mr. John McLean and Mr. Emerson Kin- caid of Ayers Cliff, Mr. and Mrs. Denzil Robinson of Winchester Springs, Miss Isobel and Miss Olive Cassels of Ottawa. Miss Nancy Carscadden of Kingston and Mrs. Robert Cars- cadden of Ottawa spent a weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Carscadden. Mrs. Paul Parlee, Brian, Ken- neth and Brenda spent a weekend with Mrs. Parlee's parents Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cherry. All attended a family gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Elliott in Ottawa, the occasion being Mrs. Cherry's birthday.
