Warner I've takin' to joggin' just like a fish takes to water. Every mornin', I go out and run by boots off for about half an hour. For anybody not too familiar with joggin', it's just a fancy title for runnin'. You may be askin' yourselves where this ol' coot got the notion he should go runnin' all over hell's half-acre like some spring- struck school kid? Well, I'm doin it to keep in shape. Now your probably askin' yourselves what an ol' wheez like me would have to stay in shape for? It's for the missus. She took a good, hard gander at me not long ago, really appraised me up and down. Then she says: "Dang-bust it, Earl. You're goin' to have to shape up or ship out. We have enough of one spare tire in the trunk; there's no call for you to carry that other one around your waist." Since I'm prone to sea-sick- ness, I decided I had best shape up. \ Se I started runnin' down the Castor Earl © Runnin' my boots off farm lane nearby, every mornin' before chores. I thought the first time would be the the last. I run about half the length of one field and collapsed against the fence, gaspin' and wheezin', suckin' for air. These ol' legs were knotted up like pretzels. I perty near gave it all up figurin' it was the missus' way to get me to kick off so she could get the insurance money. But I decided to stick to it and take another run at joggin'. And dang it, if I didn't run just a little further that next day and if it wasn't just a little easier. And every day since it's been a little further and a little easier. Now I can perty near run down three fields and back without the missus havin' to call an ambul- ance. That joggin' is a warm business and a lad can really work up a sweat. When I started out, I wasn't wearin' the right clothes for the job; I was joggin' in my steel-toed boots and coveralls till I saw this special gear advertized in the catalogue. I sent away for some joggin' togs and even by pickin' the cheapest, I still had to lay out $40 for the shoes, shirt, and some shorts. Lordy, Lord, keepin' fit can be dear. I usually head off in the mornin' with my dog Bingo leadin' the way. He goes on ahead and gives chase to anythin' that moves. Even ol' Butch the cat follows us out of the yard but he ain't much for runnin' And believe it or not, I even had the missus out on a run a couple of times and she didn't do half bad. Of course, she spent most of her time findin' fault with my new joggin' togs. She says the colors will set the cows stamped- in'. What's so bad about silver shorts with a mauve stripe, a brown shirt with orange lightnin' flashes and blue sneakers with pink laces? Those aren't really the colors I wanted, but when you order in the catalogue, I figure you should just take what you get and be thankful.
