Thirteen meetings were held. All members who joined received a box of flowers. An Anniversary Pot Luck Dinner highlighted the crowning of the Horticultural Queen and program of the Annual Flower Show at the Russell Curling Rink. A pot luck supper was held at the Anglican Church hall with reports on the Annual Ontario Convention, as well as_ the presentation of a Life Member- ship to Mr. R.M. Warner. Also presented were seven 'Trillium Awards", a framed certificate given for excellence of design and upkeep of your garden through- out the Spring, Summer and Fall, judged from the street. All people of Russell may enter regardless of whether you are a member or not. We attended the District Annual meeting held at Vankleek Hill. A work shop was conducted by Rev. Funge, of Avonmore, Ontario. Christmas arrange- ments were made in many forms. The Annual Christmas Party was held at the United Church hall. A film was shown and also a presentation of two cups and saucers to Mr. and Mrs. Thom of Morrisburg, Ont., for their keen interest. in horticultural work. Many have donated prizes, money and trophies as follows: '"'The Grove Springs", donated by Mr. and Mrs. Emmerson Kincaid; 'The William John Pelot", donated by Mr. and Mrs. Bernie Pelot; "The Nova Scotia Silver Tray", donated by Gregoire Automobile Co. Ltd., Embrun. A trophy donated by "Chantal Development Incor- porated'"' for the crowning of a Horticultural Queen, was won by Miss Kim Eadie. This is a perpetual trophy. Thanks to the Municipal Council for a grant of three hundred dollars, of which half was used on the planting of Lilac trees on Municipal property and McDougal Park; one hundred dollars from the Police Village of Russell, purchased Lilac trees for the churches and the Legion Hall. The Provincial grant was used for rental of halls, speakers, judges fees and flower show prizes, not already covered by donations. A table centre piece, as well as a basket of cut flowers were arrangements presented to the Grand Opening of the Arena. We competed at the District Annual Meeting in Vankleek Hill, and one of our members judged at the Spring Flower Show at Morrisburg. A Christmas table centre competition was held at the Christmas Party. A cup and saucer was given to Mrs. J. Twiname for her interest as well as the training of the "All Men" choir at the Anniversary Pot Luck Supper held in May. Many thanks to the business men, residents of Russell and Mr. J. Albert Belanger, M.P.P., as well, for a flag to be flown at McDougall Park. Mr. Clarence Brown judged the Flower Show. Mr. Arthur Buckley of Ottawa was guest speaker in May. The Horticultural Society were saddened at Christmas, with the sudden passing of Mr. John Twiname, who had helped to make this a successful year, and we also wish to extend to Mrs. Twiname and her family our sincere sympathy.
