Contact Harold Cowan This was the scene following a five-car pileup just east of the intersection of Concession and Castor Streets in Russell Village on July 31. The accident happened when two cars collided and went out of control hitting three other cars. But it wasn't quite as bad as it looked. There were no injuries and total damage was estimated at $5,000. Paul Curry of Kenmore was charged with impaired driving. (Photo by Rowsell). At the door was an offering box, into which, after thought, he dropped a quarter. At the end of the day the treasurer presented the cleric with the box, explaining it contained a love offering from the church. Open- ing the box, the minister saw, in the dust of the bottom, his one quarter. His little son said it well as he viewed the situation, "Daddy, if you'd put more in, you'd get more out". Out of the mouths of babes comes perfect wisdom to all who would listen; "If you'd put more in, you'd get more out." You see, life does not consist in what you can get, but what you can give. There is a devilish philosophy pervading Canadian society, and for that matter most of the Western world, that life and happiness depends on the things I can accumulate. Nearly two thousand years ago the Lord Jesus condemned this attitude saying, "What is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt. 16:25) If we could arrange to have everything our heart desired, life still would seem empty. However, unspeakable joy is waiting for those who learn to give. We could start by giving up our lives to the Man of Calvary, the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for our slavation. Another step in giving would be to relinquish some of our earthly possessions to those in need. How better can one state it than by echoing the well known poem. Only one life twill soon be passed; Only whats done for Christ will last. 3 & = = Gary R.
