Page 10 Friday, July 13, 1979 Meditorial By Rev. James Paul A fool is born every minute. Even in the highly educated country of United States there is no lack of fools. During the recent solar eclipse on February 26, Rick Malsed, a entrepreneur from Seattle, Washington sold "canned dark'"' to the public. The cans were on sale for $1 in Goldendale, Washington, the eclipse capital of the United States. Malsed offered thousands of spectators a standard-size soup can that he said contained darkness gathered during the eclipse. Instructions accom- panying the can said: "The only care your Canned Dark will require is an occasional rotation and turning end-over-end so that the dark will not accumulate on one side of the can -- this would cause the dark to become sluggish and could shorten it's life." As a final sales pitch, this brash businessman promised the people that if they properly cared for the Canned Dark, it would last until 2,017, the next solar eclipse over North America. Needless to say many fools went away from aan Washington carrying a dollar's worth of Canned Dark. In Matthew 7:26 Jesus Christ gives a Divine definition of what a foolish man really is like. Jesus stated that "everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a Foolish man who built his house on sand." Our Lord in this parable defines a fool as one who rejects the Word of God and in so doing commences to build his life on that which is shifting and unstable. Many today not only prove their foolishness by buying Canned Dark but by also living their lives for those things which are not eternal. Jesus goes on to explain that when the winds and storms of life come this foolish man's house is utterly destroyed. There is a simple choice before everyone, either one can, as wise man, anchor his life on the Rock -- Jesus, or one can, as a Foolish man, build his life on the shifting sand. A fool may be born every minute but it takes one moment of repentance to be re-born as a wise man. °Visiting With Dorothy Marquette Russell spending mounts Russell Township spent $278,443 over budget in 1978 and $224,570 : Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilkinson, Steven, Judy, Sylvia and Nancy of more than was spent in 1977, according to the Towsbic" Hull visited Mrs. Wilkinson's Mother Mrs. James Dempsey. : : a Pl wnshipS Mrs. William Carscadden spent a few days with her son and financial statment. daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carscadden of Sudbury and Road maintenance, snow re- attended their twenty fifth wedding anniversary celebration. moval and street lighting cost Mrs. Brent Marr, Trevor and Vicki of Red Deer, Alberta spent a $70,478 more than the previous couple of weeks with the formers parents Mr. and Mrs. Clelland year; and was $197,422 over the Hamilton. amount forecast in the Budget.
