Appraise the Lord -- Church for Sale You won't see a sign on the Russell Baptist Church because Reverend James Paul feels "it would look like we were selling out the Lord." But for sale it is, because the 100-year-old, white frame church on Castor Street near the corner of Concession Street can no longer meet the needs of the parish, Rev. Paul said. The church has no basement for parish activities, little park- ing, is so difficult to heat that it's virtually unusable in winter Russell parishioners double up with their Kenmore counterparts incold weather -- and the floor is so badly heaved that the minister was prompted to urge the con- gregation to hasten in its search for a new site before he disap- peared from view. The parish has its eye on a site in the village for a new, roomier church, but it must first sell the Meditorial By Rev. James Paul Are we living in the last days? Respected military leaders in Canada are predicting a global war by 1985. Numerous African, Asian, and Middle Eastern coun- tries are even now being torn apart by civil war. It seems as though mother earth is sitting on a time-bomb, bound hand and foot, as the final explosion draws near. No one can plead ignorance when the end does come for Jesus prophecied in Matthew 24:6, that the last days would be marked by the preponderance of "wars and rumors of wars". How long will it be? A significant end of time prophecy in 1 Timothy 4:1 has already been fulfilled. "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly'? Paul declares, "that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils". We have witnessed in the 2Qth Century a unprecedented interest in Satan and the occult. Books, pamphlets, television programs -- the whole fabric of our society has been infected with this demonic dis- ease. Even in Russell-Prescott, one public school was planning to hold a seance for some of it's students. No wonder Canada has lost it's identity-young and old are selling their souls to Satan. We have become a country full of empty people, seeking to fill our internal void by a so called spiritual experience. Instead of searching for the Lord Jesus and righteousness in the Bible, men are digging in the garbage can in their search for the spirit-world. The clock of time is near an end. Soon the Prince of Peace will return to bind Satan and bring in the Kingdom of God. Are you ready to welcome the Coming King? existing building which was moved from a site north of the village in 1899. The building has been for sale for two months with a few nibbles but the problem Rev. Paul admits, is what to do with a used church. Barring the possibility of anyone wanting to start up a new cult, the building could be renovated as a residence or business but the institutiona! zoning would have to be changed. The reverend suggests that one use could be as an annex to the nearby registry office which is scheduled for an addition to relieve cramped space. The church would be perfect for storing the overflow of bulky registry files, he said. The price? Well suffice to say that heaven can't wait much longer. Sun., Jan. 14 man.
