James Paul Amnesia -- the loss of mem- ory, is one of the greatest diseases which plagues Canadian society. Each year with the coming of November 11, Remem- brance Day, the disease spreads like a infectious cancer. Unlike the common cold which aggrav- ates those with a feeble constitut- ion, this cancerous amnesia afflicts all strata of life, weak or strong, young or old, male or female. Not remembering the sacrifice of brave soldiers who died for our freedom is the fore- most symptom. The root cause of such a widespread disease is in- gratitude. Surely we know they forfeited their lives on our behalf, and yet, many consider Remem- brance Day just another holiday for raking leaves or watching television. As repulsive as this amnesia can be, there is another type with more devastating results. Spirit- ual amnesia not only severs a person from God, but also renders that life as useless. If we find it easy to forget soldiers who died for us on foreign soil, it's no wonder why we forget the Lord Jesus who died for our sins on a rugged cross. However, all is not lost, the Great Physician has a remedy for spiritual amnesia. God's Word says in 1 John 1:9, "'If we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."' Ladies Auxiliary About a month ago a group of Russell area women got together to form what is now known as the F. Kinnaird Community Centre Ladies Auxiliary. Their purpose is to serve the Arena in a capacity that is much needed. First pur- pose is to outfit the kitchen in a manner that anyone renting the facility will have a place that they can work out of with ease when serving large numbers of people. This will be done by rais- ing money by catering to the Russell Lions meals. twice a month and after the first of the year, if the members so desire, to other functions as well. Our aim is to buy all food locally, and then all the women will have to do is cook it and serve it. Very little is expected to be donated, other than the tender loving touch of a woman's hands. If anyone is . interested in becoming involved please feel free to contact anyone of the following: Marion Coch- rane, 445-2956; Marilyn Sullivan, 445-2017; Joyce O'Reilley, 445- 2008; Dan Thompson, 445-2050, at the arena. Any help we can get would be greatly appreciated. The more members the less work for any one person.
