CASTOR REVIEW At Embrun -- Water relief on the way Relief is on the way for those Embrun residents forced to put up with water shortages for the past few years. In a letter to Russell Reeve Gaston Patenaude, George McCague, Minister of Environment, promised to begin the final design for water and sewage projects later this year. Hopes are that construction will begin early next summer and that work will be completed by 1981. Ministry researchers have located five wells, which contain enough potable water to serve an estimated 2,200 people. However, should this source prove to be insufficient for the needs of the expanding community, an alternate plan is being considered entailing construction of a seven mile pipeline to Casselman. It is believed enough water could be drawn from the South Nation river to put a permanent end to shortages. A decision should be made by April as to what alternative will be the most economically feasible. Acceptance of this decision by township council would mean the start of construction that could soon quench the thirst of Embrun residents. Sponsored by the Federation of Women Teachers' Associations of Ontario, the conference featured a dramatic review of the types of stress women in Canada have encountered during the past 200 years. Delegates attended workshops designed to accommodate their particular concerns in the area of stress and heard practical sug- gestions on how to cope with it.
