Russell Review SPORTS Russell Figure Skating Club Test Passed -- Linda Cooper of the Russell Figure Skating Club passed her 'Preliminary Test' this past month. Her test was skated at the Prescott Skating Club for 'which we send our thanks on Bottle Drive -- The Russell Figure Skating Club will be conducting a Bottle Drive on Saturday, April 23. If you have any returnable bottles of any type that you would like to donate. Please be generous Linda's behalf. The Russell Figure Skating Club would also like to thank Judy Valcourt, Linda's teacher, for a job well done. Congratulations Linda! when the skaters call on you. It is basically run by the girls themselves with the assistance of Ranger leaders Ann Lee Carscadden and Loretta Rombough. At present, the emphasis is on_ winter activities, fund raising and service in the community. However, the activities change with the season of the year and the ages and interests of the girls involved. Starting a new group is not an Ann Lee Carscadden, Ranger Leader, being invested into the 1s easy task. In this province, many Ranger Companies have been started and have failed. Therefore we congratulate the Russell Rangers on their suc- cess and wish them the best of everything in their fuiure en- deavours. The Dads, reinforced by Mr. St. Pierre, Ray St. Dennis and Remi St. Dennis, went on the win the game by a score of 11 to 6. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves expecially Penny St. Pierre, wife of the Bantam coach. Hugh Latimer was up to his old antics, and as a result picked up 4 minutes in penalties. | would like to thank the fathers and their helpers for making this game possible. We enjoyed ourselves, hope you did too. To Mr. Ruest and Pat who staged a _ sweater tugging contest at the end of the game, I'm sorry all my flashcubes were gone! Photo by Berube Studios, Russell. Russell Minor Hockey -- April Tournaments Russell Minor Hockey is sponsoring three all day hockey tournaments during the month of April. Atom -- April 2nd Pee Wee -- April 16th Bantam -- April 17th 8 Teams in each tournament. Ten games each. Medallion presentations at each game. Trophy presentations to final- ists. All Tournaments start at 8:00 a.m. in the Russell Arena. After a month's postpone- ment the 2nd Annual Broomball Tournament was held on the 11, 12 and the 13 of March. Everyone who attended enjoyed some very good broomball, especially on Sunday night when 3 out of the 4 final games ended up in overtime. Local teams ended up in both "A" Division. The Ladies' was won by the Embrun Du Castor Girls who defeated Alfred Sport Shop 2 to 1 in overtime. While the Eastern Canadian Champ- ions from St. Albert, playing under the sponsorship of Joe Servage Abbatior won the Men's t Division by defeating S.V.B.L. of Cornwall 2 to 1, also' in overtime. In "B" Division Kilmas won the Men's Division and the Falconettes of Ottawa the Ladies'. Sunday evening Jack Dillon representing Labatts Breweries presented M.V.P. awards and prizes to the members of the two winning teams. The girls receiv- ed leather wallets and the men received sports bags. The committee wishes - to thank all those who worked the long hard hours from Friday, 7:00 p.m., non-stop to the wee hours Sunday morning and then again on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. until the windup that night. Special thanks goes out to Gary Patterson and his helpers who Russell Recreation Association manned the doors, Irving Sundstrum and the firefighters for looking after the timekeeping and the scoresheets. The tournament was a financial success generating for the community approximately $2,400.00.
