Mrs. Scarth has been selected to lead a group of Guides and Rangers on a three week tour of Switzerland and Germany during July. Mrs. Scarth is our Division Camp Advisor which means she pais Fee teaches and tests Russell Girl Guides on camping and other outdoor skills. The Scarth farm at Dalmany is well known to Senior Girl Guides. Pamela, selected to go on the Ontario Adventure trip, leaves August 14 for two weeks in Mexico. This includes 6 days in Mexico City where she will visit | Guides the National Palace and Govern- ment Building, 2 days in beautiful Acapulco, 7 days at the Guide Cabana in Cuernavaca, a visit to Taxco, the city of silver, the pyramids and other sights of interest. When Pamela isn't touring she will be swimming and taking part in a variety of organized activities with Guides from all over the world. This year our club is very active with twenty five members. The club executive and leaders planned meeting activities and committees responsible for lunch at each meeting. Our meetings have included an exciting fun night held at Russell Public School gym with club members and leaders participating in sports activities. Our first barn meeting was held at Corry Smit's farm where we judged cows and calves. The next meeting was held at Barry Carscadden's farm Russell Review Russell Calf Club where we also judged cows and listened to a local veterinarian, Dr. Geoff Cochrane talk about mastitis. Our next meeting will be held on July 12 at which club members will give a speech or demonstrat- ion on a topic dealing with agriculture. Other upcoming events include attending an Ottawa Rough Rider football game, a 4-H baseball tournament and our Achievement Day. Donna Dugdale Amateur Contest An Amateur Contest will be held on Sun., Aug. 8, 1976, as part of the Russell Fair. Prizes are being offered in the following classes: Vocal, Instrumental, Dance and other, and Trophies will be presented for best performances by an individual, group, person 12 or under, senior citizen. Deadline for entries is July 28. Please call Judy James, 445-5690. Beverly Cherry Wins N.D.D.H.S. Concert Band Scholarship We were happy to hear of the 'winning by Miss Beverly Cherry of the N.D.D.H.S. Concert Band Scholarship of $100 at the Gradu- ation Exercises, June 29. Con- gratulations, Beverly. Social Notes A party was held at the Legion Hall in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Prevost celebrating their 20th Wedding Anniversary. A party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rudi Bols celebrat- ing their 25th Wedding Anniver- ary. Welcome home to Chris Coates, after several weeks at the Ottawa Sick Childrens Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Boothe of Russell, celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary at the home of their daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Ken Neely of Ottawa on Sunday, July 11. Mr. and Mrs. Boothe have 3 children, Mrs. Ken Cumming (Erva) of Russell, Mrs. Ken Neely (Ola) of Ottawa, and Carl Boothe of Ottawa, and 5 grand- children. Mrs. Boothe celebrated her birthday on her anniversary. Miss Linda Weatherall and Miss Donna Cumming of Russell are presently volunteering their services at the Rideau Regional Centre at Smith Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Mac MacCrimm- on, David and Nancy of Cumber- land were guests of the Misses Florence and Dorothy Marquette on Sunday. Mr. James Gamble has return- ed from a vacation in Westen Canada. While in Alberta he visited his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Droppo, Pamela and Kevin at Wetaskeivin. Almost 200 were in attend- ance including some from as far away as Grimshaw, Alberta. Messages were received from the Queen, the Prime Minister, Mr. Clark, and Albert Belanger sent a plaque. Corsages and boutoniers were made by Judy Hamilton, while Judy James and Jean Dennison made the three-tier wedding cake. The best man, Howard James of Vernon, was present. Rev. Woolfrey offered prayer and said a few words, while Mr. Burton Rodney of Oshawa made an address. A buffet and sand- wiches were enjoyed, while old photographs brought back memories. The James farmed in the Russell area until 1950 when they moved to Ottawa. Married at Edwards, they have three child- ren, Carmen, Ruby and Lois, fourteen grandchildren and thir- teen great-grandchildren.
