Not because is was school, the last day of the week or that it was spring. Some of the teachers of OTHS had made a cake to be sold during lunch periods. Only men teachers could be in this contest. They were Mr. Branson, Mr. Duboyce, Mr. Lapp, Mr. Potter and a few others. The winner for the most artistic cake went to Mr. Lapp. The winner for the fastest selling cake went to the vice-principal, Mr. Duboyce. All the cakes were very decorative. Talking about some very special events, on the 3ist of March the CFRA 'Happy Blunderers"' Basketball Team visited OTHS to face our team comprised of teachers and students. Playing for OTHS were: Mr. Mallon, Mrs. McCann, Mr. Saunders, Mr. Levia, Mr. Lapp, Mr. Fennell, Mr. Brodribb, Mr. Kerruish, Mr. Duboyce, Mr. Bangay and students Donna Sauve, Trudy Vriend, Pete and Tony Hendrikx. The 'Happy Blunderers" were composed of Dave Shriber, the voice of the 67's on CFRA, Don Courtney from the News Department. John Cavil from CFMO, Dave Ross who works at the news desk. Dave was playing his last game for the 'Happy Blunderers" before going to an Edmonton radio station. We all wish Dave Ross good luck out west. Others playing were Al Dubois, Don Turney and Shelly Emmond. Yes, Al Dubois does the weather for the CBOT Station in Ottawa. Don Turner works in the promotion department and Shelly Emmond does the Traffic Show of CFRA. OTHS poured it on and at one time led 12-0. The Happy Blunderers came back and at half time they were trailing 25-19. At half-time there were some door prizes, compliments of CFRA-CFMO. They gave away three albums and three sets of beer steins. The second half of the game stayed close and OTHS finally won it 44-37. I still say if the teachers didn't have those four students they would have lost. Don Turner put on a lot of points, about 10 or 12. Al Dubois tripped over Donna Sauve's leg and sprained his ankle. Al, you might as well stick to your weather and music. Anyway, it was a good game. I'd like to thank Laurie Crosbie, Tony Difrancescomarino, the four cheerleaders, Beth Dawson, Dora Difrancescomarino, Janet Brownlee and Dawna Ramsay. Especially I'd like to thank Shelly Emmond and the rest of the gang down at CFRA for making this whole thing possible. All the proceeds go the the Morris family who were burnt out a month ago. There was $265 raised. I am sure I had fun being emcee and hope you had fun too. Coming events to OTHS are the boys' basketball Tourney on April 10th, the Girls' Basketball Tourney on April 24th and the Annual Volleyball Tournament at Russell Public School on May 1, 1976. Until the next edition of the Russell Review . . . take care. Garey "Toot"' Ris Left to Right: Dave Shriber, Don Courtney, John Cavil, Dave Ross, Al Dubois and Don Turner. O.T.H.S.
