Fire Chief Wib Bethune, Reeve George Stivrins, Deputy Fire Chief Carl and Firefighter Pete Swift are proud of their new fire truck. It can pump 840 gallons per minute, compared to the old truck which could pump 625 gallons per minute. The truck, which cost just over $100,000, was specially made for the needs of Humphrey Township. The truck was fitted with an equipment rack (so necessary gear doesn't get lost in the shuffle), extra hose outlets, and seven, 1 1/2 inch discharges and four, 2 1/2 inch discharges, New truck and a very large suction intake valve. There is also an hour meter which tells the firemen how many pumping hours have passed (for maintenance purposes), and a clock on the panel (not that common). "We had a long range plan for the truck- a long time spent planning, financially and for things to have on the truck to fit the needs of the township," Chief Bethune. The truck even has an extra connection for a nozzle at the back. Chief Bethune thanked everyone who helped, and said Reeve Stirvins helped in a big way to make the purchase possible. The chief made mention of Car! SMITH (in photo) who has been a member of the Humphrey Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years. He was a member when the department form-jed and got its first truck, which cost only several thousand dollars. Chief Bethune also mentioned the Stoneman brothers Errol and Harry who have also been members for 28 years. But it was Errol said Chief Bethune, who is a former chief, and who helped with designing the specificiations for the new truck. Staff photo
