TEN CENTS A COPY Competition Ranked High At Bridge's Extravaganza IRON BRIDGE — Competitions were keen in the different sporting events of the weekend at the Winter Carnival sponsored by the Iron Bridge Lions Club. Starting off the events on Saturday morning was the 15 mile cross country skiing in which five competitors from the Sault took part Winners were first — Tenho Tikka in 59 min. 50 sec. Second — Pentti Thil 1 hr. 2 mm. and 25 sec. Third — M. Luomarata in 66 min. 25 sec. The 9.15 power toboggan race Class B. the winners were First — Brian McDougal in 1 hr. 1 min. and 15 seconds, Second — Paul Valiquette in 1 hr. 3 min. and 45 sec. Third — Bill Arnill in 1 hr. 12 min. and 55 sec. Men's snowshoe races held at 10.30 gave Basil Seabrook the trophy, plus cash and a crest. Runners up were Morris Rutledge and Ron Maitland. The children's race 14 and under went to Jerry Allen, Mike Collins of Blind River and Michael Rutledge. At 11 a.m. five women competed in the women's open snowshoe race of two miles. Mrs. Bailey Berry made it in the shortest time followed closely by Glenna Bilton and Mrs. Joe Hartin. In the afternoon six machines in the Class A toboggan race left the starting point shortly after 3.30 p.m. on the 15 mile course. Ernie Young came out on top with timing of 1 hr. 1 min. 45 seconds; Second — Albert King in 1 Mr. 3 min. 30 seconds; Third, Grant King in 1 hr. 3 min. and 52 sec. The colorful parade led by the pipe band of the Sault's 49th Regiment was held Saturday afternoon with ideal sunshiny weather. Complimentary remarks were heard on all sides on the work and time spent in making it an outstanding part of the day's programme. Best Association Float — C.G.I.T. Girls, Boy Scouts Group Group. Best Decorated Float — Hockey Association of Iron Bridge. Original Float or Car — Mrs. Bill Burbadge (Igloo Northland), Mrs. James Heasman — The Little N.H.L. (complete with goalie nets). Comic Float — Teen Town Hillbillies, Homemade Snowmobile on Wheels (Rickey Arnill and Arthur House). Clown (Man) James Heasman Clown (Woman) Barbara Arnill. Best Costume — Snow Queen (Shirley House) Snow Man (Heather Gardiner. Best Costume (Boys) — Yogi Bear (Jacques Swift). Best Couple Adult — Gift Boxes (Ruth Tulloch and June Cameron), Horse (Maxine Wedgwood and Valerie Arnill). Best Couple (Boys and Girls) Ice Queens (Terri and Kim Mitchell), Clowns (Terry Montgomery and Patricia Cosgrove). Best Group — Little Red Riding Hood Family — Debbie and Brenda Cosgrove and Ruth Montgomery. Comic Book Characters — Laurie Bibby, Nancy Reinhardt and Jacqueline Christie. Best Decorated Snowmobile — Robert Chevis and daughters Corrie and Darlene. Judges for the parade entrants were E. Linley of Iron Bridge, Jean Eckle Blind River and Lew Sutton of Thessalon.
