A TRIP FOR NOTHING A large number of the mem bers of the Board of Trade had a trip for nothing to Hamilton the other night, although it may not have been for nothing as it may bear fruit in after years. The trip was made with the object of trying to induce the Grocers' Association of the City of Hamilton to hold their annual picnic at Grimsby Beach this, year. About thirty members of' the Board of Trade accompanied by the 44th Regt. Band, and Mr Wylie_ of Grimsby Beach, left Grimsby by special car at seven o'clock on Thursday evening, June 2. Upon their arrival in the City a procession was formed, headed by the Band and a banner bearing the legend "Grimsby Board of Trade for Grimsby Beach" To the strains of martial music the procession marched up King Street to James, south on James to Main and down Main to the Board of Trade building, where the Grocers were holding forth. They were welcomed by Presi dent McIntosh and Secretary Bay Hill. The meeting was addressed by Wm. Mitchell, Reeve of Grimsby : O. Zryd. President of the Board of Trade; Jas. A. Livingston, W. J. Drope, H H Wylie, S. E. Mabey, G. B. McConachie and George E. Waller, all of whom urged the Grocers to come to Grimsby Beach and promising them good accommodations and a pleasant time. Mr Waller prom- ised that he would put ten or twelve special cars at their dis posal on the H. G. & B. President McIntosh and Mess- rs. Adam Ballantine and John O. Carpenter spoke for the Grocers and said that Grimsby Beach would receive the Grocers best consideration. The deputation then returned to Grimsby by special car. The Grocers decided to go to Niagara Falls and the Grimsby people were disappointed but not discouraged as they feel that the trip improved their chances for securing the big picnic another year.
