Page 8 - THE PARRY SOUND NORTH STAR, Thursday, May 6, 1982 Sponsors of fund-raising hike hope for large turnout in Foley May 15th FOLEY - A large turnout is expected for the third 12-mile hike organized by Ken Vankoughnett, chairman, and his wife Mabel for the Otter Lake United Church building fund on May 15th. Participants may pick up sponsor sheets at the church on Sundays, at the school and Township Office, in Parry Sound at the North Star, or phone Ken at 378-2858 for information. Hikers will register at 10 a.m. at the church (on Rankin Lake Road next to the fire hall), then walk the black-top paved road (once called the Parry Sound Road) to Horseshoe Lake Community Centre, six miles south. After refreshments there, hikers then retrace their steps back to the starting point where the U.C.W. will welcome them with more refreshments. This is a hike for all ages from eight to eighty, and each at his or her pace. Funds raised will help complete the inside of the new church hall erected last summer, mainly with volunteer labour. Approximately $20,000. has been raised and spent to date on the project. The annual spring hike has brought in a large amount each year and it is hoped that this year every hiker will find sponsors and even more people will participate. On Saturday, May 29th, there will be a follow-up Pot Luck Supper (open to everyone) at the Horseshoe Lake Community Centre to tally final results. At this event successful hikers will be issued an attractive certificate suitable for framing.
