We have owned the general store for over 30 years. It is mistakenly identified as a brick building...it has a stone foundation but the rest is wood frame. Many fond memories raising our three daughters there.

My aunt and uncle have owned the Little Rapids General Store for 3 decades. I have so many memories at this gorgeous piece of living history. Ice cream, the smell of summer sausage, delicious 7 year old cheese, gassing up for the long trip home, playing with my cousins on every square inch of their property. Kudos to my Auntie Kim and Uncle Merv for keeping this magical place alive!

This is indeed a rare picture since like a teenagers' bedroom this is the first time I have ever seen the porch floor bare. It has for as long as I can remember been stacked with everything from feed to baler twine including the antique signs and the old thermometer. Inside the store is everything from a candy bar to a pair of boots and I hope it never changes. The Little Rapids museum is a great historical site but the store could be tucked right along the other buildings and would not be out of place.

50 years ago my folks built a place on Birch Lake and we have been customers ever since then. My brother and I would trim Christmas trees and put up hay on many local farms .We never got paid for putting up hay but we sure ate like kings! The funniest thing that ever happened in the store occurred one fall when the hunting regulations made it necessary to show proof of an old license to qualify for a new one. I was at a loss to do that until I remembered I had nailed one on a plaque of a 10 pt I had shot a few years earlier. I went back and brought the whole plaque including the antlers back to the store. As Merv was filling out me new license a woman walked in and after watching for a minute asked.."Do I have to bring in a deer head to get a license too??"
