The Sault of yesteryear - from The Star's files
50 YEARS AGO—1921W. A. Bridge of Thessalon tells us that the name "Thessalon" is really original. It is an Indian word and means "something big above something small." The name originated when a party of Indians on one of their hunting expeditions, on approaching what we now call Thessalon Point, observed a large bear crouched on the limb of a tree and one of them exclaimed "Thessalon," which was ever afterwards applied to this particular section of the country.
Thessalon at present has a population of a little over 2,000 but with the possibilities before us we expect that number will be doubled or trebled in the near future.
