- Description
- This is a black and white photo of the Hope Mill, Thessalon. There are various buildings in the photo that would have been used for things like grading, cutting, and drying. Hope Lumber Co. was started by Edgar B. Foss of Bay City and named for his daughter Edith Hope Foss. Mr. Mitchell, Mr.White and Mr. Gratwick of Tonawanda financed the construction of the mill and took over ownership from Foss.
- Notes
- This company was formed by Mr. White, Mr. Gratrick, and Mr. Mitchell. Mr. W. Chason of Massey was woods manager and Charles Williams of Bay City was the manager of lumber and mill. During their seven seasons they removed 51 million feet of red and white pine as well as 1/2 million feet of spruce logs. This mill also did control cutting. The mill was sold to the Crane Lumber Co. in 1930.
