- This is a sepia tone photo of the first St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Thessalon. It is a small one story log structure surrounded by a wooden picket fence.
A priest in a long, dark robe is standing to the right of the building. - Notes
- Thessalon's First Catholic Church was called St. Francis Xavier and was built it 1865. It was located on Church Street.
This building was originally located on the lot where the church manse stands now. A cemetery was located beside the church. In approximately 1900, a new church was built and moved to the back of the lot. The third Catholic Church built in 1936 was a large brick building. When the third church was destroyed by fire the present St. Ambrose Church was built.
Notes indicate that the priest in the photo may be Father Baxter. - Date of Original
