- Description
- This is a black and white photo of the government dock in Thessalon. The picture shows a light coloured long rectangular building with an overhanging roof.
Three men stand near a railing facing the water in front of the building. Barrels and a variety of other items are spread out along the length of the building. - Notes
- In the early 1900's Government Dock was the site of many events. There were passenger boats checking in twice a week (The Caribou and the Manitou) on their way from Owen Sound and Michipiocoten on Lake Superior. Additionally, the S.S. Premier made daily trips from Thessalon to Sault Ste. Marie.
Steamships regularly visited the dock to load logs at the sawmill and tugboats were used to haul log rafts from the mouth of the Mississagi River to Thessalon mills. - Date of Original
