- Description
- This is a black and white photo of the Asam basket factory. A large wooden building is seen in the center of the photo.
Piles of logs and sawdust are visible in the foreground of the photo. A man is leaning over the end of one of the log piles. Behind him are two white horses that appear to be hitched. - Notes
- Mr. Joseph Asam began discussions with the town of Thessalon in 1918. The terms were finalized in 1920 with the factory being built within the year. The factory closed in 1934 when demand waned during the Depression.
The factory was powered by steam, that was supplied by burning refuse materials. Steam was also used for heat, but there was no internal lighting. - Inscriptions
- A note on the bottom of the photo states: "Asam Basket Factory, owned by Joseph Asam. Factory Built 1920 on site of old Gordon Mill."
