Does anyone know of a family with the last name Castle or Cassell or something like this? They would have lived within the logging camp around 1900 - 1920.
My grandfather was born to a Mary, who died around 1920. Her husband, who's name is Ed or Joe or William (my father isn't sure, he's mixed up the name of a son, and the father) had a logging accident a few years later and lost his leg.
He and Mary had 3 boys, (Ed or Joe or William) was the oldest born about 1913. Albert was born 1915, and Jim (James) was born one or two years after Albert. Albert is my grandfather.
After their father lost his leg, he re-married a woman with children of her own. She didn't want the boys, or couldn't afford the boys, so they were moved to an orphanage home in Algoma County, Slt Ste Marie.
I am trying to find ANYTHING on Albert Cassell, his parents or his brothers. There are currently no online records, and my father has physically driven through every community between Espanola and Slt Ste Marie and gone through public records. We believe that due to the environment the Albert was born into that there were no records of his birth. He didn't have a birth certificate until 1965 when he applied for his pension and had to have someone vouch for who he was. Everything I know is his supposed birth date, and that he was born in a logging camp outside of Iron Bridge, Ontario. The Algoma Records building burnt down in the 1950's, so any possible records of my grandfather's existance would have gone down in that blaze.
If anyone is reading this, and you have information either on my family, or know where I could go to find more information, I would very much appreciate if you could email me at megankennah@hotmail.com
Thank you so much. I am loving going through the wonderful pictures of logging communities in and around Iron Bridge Area. Sincerely, Megan Kennah
