    The vertical pipes are part of the former Abitibi hardboard press which closed down some years ago.

    The spill dams on the Sturgeon River were built in 1923-24 with a continuous pour of 5,399 cubic yards of concrete in 10 hour shifts. The municipality of West Nipissing bought the hydro dams when Weyerhaeuser closed down its mill in the early 2000s.

    Heavy construction equipment is knocking the Weyerhaeuser buildings. Weyerhaeuser was the last mill in a string of different owners since the turn of the last century on a site known as Abitibi along the Sturgeon River.

    The demolition of the Sturgeon Falls mill began in 2004 with the removal of the "paint line" building which once housed the production of a siding line by the Abitibi company.

    Environmental abatement was carried out in 2004 at the Weyerhaeuser site. The mill site was cleaned up from June to December of 2004.

    This image only shows part of a four-storey digester that cooked the pulp when the mill used wood. In the early days,the pulp was further treated before headin to the paper machines where it produced corrugating paper.

    Mill hauled away one load at the time from June to December of 2004.
