Emmett Rainville, beloved husband of Barbara (née Stillar) and the late Melba (née Gribbons) passed away at London University Hospital, Sunday, August 28, 2005 in his 80th year. He will be greatly missed by his children -Timothy Rainville, Shelly McDonald (Nick), Tracy Butler (Tom) and Chris Heasman (Sarah); his brothers Terry and Ken Rainville; his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents Reena (née Bonany) and Albert Rainville; three infant children Steven, Susan and Mark and infant grandchild Daniel.

Emmett was born and raised in North Bay and attended high school at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall. From the age of six he developed a dream of flying, a dream that became reality in 1966 when he earned his pilot's license and started to fly. He bought a plane of his own and later built an ultralight which he flew for years. He was a member of North Bay Model Airplane club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the North Bay Astronomy Club and was an usher at the Pro Cathedral of the Assumption Church.

He helped the War Effort in Europe by becoming an instructor in the Canadian Army during World War II. He worked as a sign painter and silk screener with Price Signs, and later with Forest Signs and Bay City Signs. His leisure time was filled with hobbies and interests. He enjoyed astronomy, astrology, bowling, curling, fishing, hunting, camping, canoeing, photography and later in life he enjoyed geneology - a search of his roots.

He loved to work with his hands and created many things including his own telescope, an airplane, boats, built his own cottage where he scuba dived, and he created many signs throughout North Bay and Northern Ontario. Emmett will be remembered by many as a kind and gentle man with an incredible sense of humour, with a deep faith that he developed throughout his life.

Emmett was a strong man - his strength and humility was truly admirable. Funeral arrangements entrusted to McGUINTY FUNERAL HOME.
