MAYER, Sheppard (Shep) — It is with great sorrow that the family of Sheppard Edwin Mayer announces his peaceful passing on Monday, February 7, 2005 with his beloved wife of 60 years, Marie (nee Boyer) and his family at his side. He leaves behind those whose hearts he has touched with his love, generosity, integrity and compassion, including his three daughters Carol (Louis Brisson), Dale (Bruce Hummel) and Christine (Tony Atkin) all of North Bay, his brothers, Howard (Helen), Richard (Gloria) both of Sturgeon Falls and Jeanne D'Arc Sullivan of Sudbury. He will be lovingly remembered by his seven grandchildren Todd Hummel, Ryan Freeston, Andrew Freeston, Katie Atkin, David Brisson (Anita), Michael Brisson and one great-grandchild Breanna Brisson. "Shep" was born in Sturgeon Falls, November 9, 1923. He received his education at Sturgeon Falls Secondary and North Bay Collegiate. He played junior hockey for the Guelph Biltmores and then N.H.L for the Toronto Maple Leafs. He served his country as a pilot in WWII and flew with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942-1971. He then served as District Director for the Department of Veterans Affairs until his retirement. A private visitation and family service will be held at HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES to celebrate his life. Remembrances in memory of "Shep" may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
