I am writing to you on behalf of the Wellington County Historical Society. We are preparing Volume 21 of our annual local history journal, and hoping to include an article on Arthur-born violinist Maud Buschlen (pictured here). You can imagine how delighted I was to find your web-site project on Agnes Macphail with a portrait of Maud. I gather the 10 weeks in the west were during the summer recess of 1928. I think Community Chautauquas Ltd. also booked her in 1929, as she (and Maud Buschlen) were scheduled in New Liskeard in September (Agnes didn't make it) but DID appear that year in Nokomis. In my research about Maud Busclen, she & Agnes Macphail shared the same management company at New Liskeard and Nokomis, Sask. in 1929. One reference can be found in The History of Nokomis written by Edythe Humphrey http://www.geocities.com/nokomis_website/history.html.

After commenting on this item, Ian Easterbrook wrote and published an article "Maud Buschlen: Violiniste - 'The Return Date'" in Vol. 21 (2008) of Wellington County History. The article includes a reprint of the Chautauqua Lecture Series photograph.
