Winter in the Flats

Framed Oil on Masonite (With Some Water Soluble Paint) Artist description: Cleveland was blessed with the Coyahoga River which wound around the valley called the Flats. This valley is peppered with docks and industrial plants. Large boats come right up the river to unload their cargo at the steel mills. This sketch shows a typical subject of buildings and ships all umped together. I spent many a Sunday painting in the Flats. Here again the colours are subdued and the atmosphere depressing.
