THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN SEMINARY OF CANADA WATERLOO - ONTARIO July 14,1926. Dear Mother: Your most welcome and interesting letter was received yesterday morning and was read with great pleasure. I must apologize to you for writing to you on the typewriter tonight; but the fact of the matter is that I broke my pen the other day, and it is the typewriter or nothing. So you will kindly excuse me till I can get my pen repaired. I have been at home all day today, having had no pteaching appointment. Next Sunday I am to preach at Conestoga, about 7 miles from here. This morning I was down at St. John's and heard Pastor Reumann-the supply pastor during Pastor Robert's vacation. He preached a very good sermon on Ps.42:I-2.He has a good voice and is a much better homiletician than Pastor Roberts. From his pronunciation I take it that he is a Saxon or South German. Today was his last sermon here; next Sun day Pastor Roberts will be with us again. We had some very hot weather the first of last week-the thermometer renning up into the nineties; but about the middle of the week we had a fine rain. Since then it has been nice and cool. Today was exceptionally fine-well nigh ideal for a summer day. We are having an abundance of sugar-peas and beans out of my garden and have been almost living off of them since I came back .I spent the greater part of two days working in my garden the last of last week, and now have it in pretty good shape. My corn, people tell me, is about the best looking of any in the country around here. The tomatoes also look fine. We have had a few little dry spells, but they have not been of long enough duration to hurt the garden. Dr. 4erscher and family- Mrs.Hoffmann's son in law and her son Frederick and his wife from Phil'a are over at her place for their vacation .So our children and the Merscher children are having great times together. Carolus and Herman have not had any jobs this summer. Carolus is working pretty steadily for Mr. Schantz on his farm, and Herman is putting in his time studying-mostly German. Carolus and one of his comrades are planning a bicycle trip to Niagara Fall son the coming week-end. It is 92 miles over the pavement to the Falls. After they get there they will stay with Mr. Schug, one of our last year's students at the College. Bonnie said that I should tell you to say to Mabel that she will write her in a few days. She intended to write today; but we pitted 4 big boxes of cherries last night and Bonnie did them up tpday-23 qts., and she feels too tired to write tonight. You remember what we were talking about in the dining room a day or so before I left. Well, I am of the opinion that the date should be set back a month. It surely should be unless we are to expect a double dose. Anyway September should not be left out of our calendar. Tell Blanche that I apologize most humbly for not bidding her good bye. I didn't realize that she would be gone when we got back and that I wouldn't see her again. You might give her an extra kiss for me in partial payment of my delinquency. I am glad to hear that she is to get settled again in N. C.. and hope that she will stay put this time. You did not say whether any thing further has been done in th the matter of the Filling Station on your property. I trust that th tibteshan beentnanhEtdJa in the deal and that your financial worrie will soon be at an end. I was down at the lake this afternoon and swam across and back. I haven't missed a day since I came home. I am sorry that I missed Aunt Claudia, but I am sure she enjoyed her
