Dear Mother:
I am writing this from Port Colborne, which is just 19 miles from Buffalo on the Canadian side of Lake Erie. I came down here yesterday to preach for Pastor Schmidt, who is sick and unable to hold his services. I have just finished the evening service and have returned from visiting a friend who is a member of the congregation here. It is now after 10 o’clock and nearly bed time. So I will have to make my communication brief, especially as I must get up early in the morning to make my train for home. I want to get back by noon, if possible, as I have a couple lectures in the afternoon tomorrow which I would not like to miss. The weather to-day was very disagreeable. It rained heavy nearly all day and blew a gale. As a consequence the congregations were small, although the attendance was a little better to-night as the rain had ceased and the wind died down a bit. It was quite cold all last week and we had snow every day from Monday till Friday inclusive.

One morning the snow was about three inches deep and some people shoveled the side walks. On Friday morning the lake in the park at Waterloo was frozen over – the earliest known for years. This afternoon Mr. Lang at whose place I am staying here drove me and his family over to Welland and in a circle back home, a distance of 35 miles in his new Chrysler car. It was one of the first riding cars I have ever been in. On good roads he made 60 miles an hour. I left them all well at home except that Bonnie had not fully recovered from her cold, but she was on the mending line. Marion received your letter with the dollar included on her birthday and I can tell you she was a happy girl. She went over to Kitchener to spend her money, but I don’t think she spent more than about 50₵ of the $2.00 that she received. We had another new student last week from Detroit, Mich. This brings our enrolement up to 84. So you see we are still advancing. Well, as it is late and I don’t want to keep my hosts up too long, I will close for this time, hoping to be able to do better next week. With love and all good wishes to you all, I am
Most Sincerely yours,
