Dear Doctor,-
Rev. H. J. Behrens informs me that you have been elected as English Professor of the Seminary at Waterloo. I am very glad to learn of the Board’s action, and express my sincere wish that you may see your way clear to accept it. As soon as the Germans see that the effort to make the institution representative of their interests is hopeless, the future is assured. The fact that the Canada Synod requested the election of an English Professor means more than the mere statement of the fact would indicate. You are the man for the place.
I opposed the election of Student Zinck at this time, not because I have no faith in him, but it is not fair to us nor to him to put him as principal of the College before his course is completed, & before he is tested as all young men in the ministry are tested. In a few years, if he proves faithful, he will make an excellent professor & possibly Principal for the College.
But this is aside of the mark. What I want to impress upon you is the fact that there is real need for your services.
Praying that God may lead you in this important matter,
I remain, with best wishes to the family
