Dear Dr. Weidner:
Your letter of 27th ult. was duly received and read with pleasure. Since writing you last I finished reading Phillip Brooks’ Sermons and have also read Kuldell’s “The Passion King” a most excellent little book recently issued from the Columbian Book Concern; Stump’s Luther’s Small Catechism, which I find of profitable service in my catechetical work, and finally you Doctrine of the Ministry. It is the completest and most comprehensive treatment of the subject that I have ever come across, and I am highly taken with it and shall no doubt have occasion to consult it often. I read Schenck’s Practical Theology about a year ago. I am still doing a little work as I find time on Meyer’s critical Commentary, but as I have so much on my hands, it goes very slow. Rev. Murray declined the call to Mahone, so that parish is still vacant. If we could only keep all our parishes supplied with pastors we might accomplish much more in this land. With best wishes, I am
Sincerely yours,
